Product Details
Red-purple shiso (aka-jiso) leaves, deep violet with a more assertive spicy-anise flavor than green shiso. Traditionally used to color and flavor Japanese pickles.
Best ways to use: layer with salted plums to make umeboshi, brine for pickled ginger’s classic pink color, muddle into shiso syrup for cocktails, chiffonade over rice bowls, or dry and grind into furikake seasoning.
Storage tip: wrap stems in damp paper towel inside an airtight container — stays fresh 5–7 days. Freeze whole for pickling projects year-round.
